Most inexperienced participants evaluate notes by asking: “What return does this produce?” More disciplined participants begin somewhere else.They ask:“What can go wrong, and how exposed is the position if it does?” This difference in perspective changes everything that follows.

Many people assume success in note investing comes from finding more deals. In practice, long-term stability often comes from rejecting the wrong ones. This is one of the least understood aspects of disciplined acquisition. Inexperienced participants tend to view opportunity emotionally.

Most deterioration becomes expensive long before it becomes obvious. The difference between reactive thinking and structured thinking often determines whether those early signals are recognized in time.
